Why Volunteer Society Nepal?

Volunteer Society Nepal is a local Nepali organization. This means that we have no international offices and all the money will go to Nepal and our projects. Because we have no international offices, we offer volunteering placements in Nepal that are highly affordable and designed for everyone from young students to adult professionals. As a local organization, we know our country best!
We have low overhead and still offer fantastic service, equal to the high-cost international agencies.

Volunteer fees go directly to the communities we serve, making real change. Thanks to these fees plus generous donations and funds raised by our ever-growing Volunteer Society Nepal family, we have already established several long-term sustainable projects. For example the CBIA School for 800 students, a daycare centre for intellectually disabled children, an after-school child care centre and a women’s centre. These are all continuously expanding. We provide scholarships for underprivileged children, supply nutritious food to our centres and donate school materials to different schools.

Volunteer Society Nepal is founded and run by Nepali professionals. We collectively have more than 50 years experience of working in leading international volunteer and development organizations in Nepal. We frequently visit our project sites, meet volunteers, and hold discussions with host families, local people and organizations. Through this, we revise and set up new meaningful and rewarding programs. Our staff are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to support you at your placement. The office acts as a point of
contact with our staff and as a general meeting point for volunteers. We are here to assist with any concerns, problems, advice, and general administration that may arise during your time in Nepal.

Our Internship and volunteering programs in Nepal are flexible to ensure that our volunteers’ efforts and skills are channelled in the best way to benefit themselves and the local communities with which they work. In addition to the projects outlined on our website, we also offer placements in other areas at the special request of our volunteers and are happy to customize longer stays to include more than one project.

We have placed hundreds of international volunteers from 17 to 76 years old from all over the world. All of them have had a great experience while making a meaningful contribution to supporting local disadvantaged & marginalized communities. After returning to their homes safe and sound, some have already come back to Nepal, and many more have made plans to come back and join us again.

Why Volunteering in Nepal?

Nepal is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of biodiversity due to its varying altitudes and geographical position. The country covers altitudes from 60 meters above sea level to the peak of Everest at 8,848m! Because of this, Nepal has an incredibly diverse ecosystem including thick tropical jungles, teeming wildlife, great mountain ranges, forested hills and frozen valleys. Its spectacular geography offers an astonishing range of sightseeing attractions and adventure opportunities, which are found nowhere else on earth.

Nepal is home to hundreds of sacred sites and monuments dotted around medieval towns bearing influences of Hindu and Buddhist religious traditions from neighboring India and Tibet. This cultural and architectural landscape is unique to Nepal. In Kathmandu Valley alone, seven groups of monuments are on the UNESCO World Heritage List: The Durbar Squares of Hanuman Dhoka (Kathmandu), Patan
and Bhaktapur, the Buddhist stupas of Swayambhu and Bouddha, and the Hindu temples of Pashupati and Changu Narayan. Three other UNESCO World Heritage sites in Nepal are the Sagarmatha National Park, home to Mount Everest, Chitwan National Park in the Terai region, and Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha.

If you love stunning mountain views or love to climb them, then Nepal should be on the top of your bucket-list. Of the top 10 mountains in the world lying above 8000 metres, 8 are found in Nepal. This includes the world’s tallest mountain: Mount Everest. What’s more beautiful about Nepal is you don’t really have to be near the mountain ranges to enjoy the view: you can see the mountains even from the Terai. If you’re looking for extreme sport adventures, Nepal is also your destination. River rafting, paragliding, trekking, mountain climbing, kayaking, boating, bungee jumping, mountain flights – you name it; they are all available in Nepal. You can also find the world’s most extreme zipline in Pokhara, Nepal.

Volunteering in Nepal will help you to see the world from a different perspective, which enables you to develop your critical thinking and cross-cultural skills. In addition, by leaving the familiar behind to go encounter new people and places, you will gain a better understanding of yourself and the world around you. Experiencing another way of life firsthand will enhance your independence, understanding, education and self-awareness. These life-skills are all invaluable.

Volunteering in Nepal can be considered a mutual developing experience. It gives you to experience the real life in Nepal while making a meaningful contribution to disadvantaged local communities. Disadvantaged Nepalese people benefit from your help by means of care-giving, knowledge and love sharing. Simultaneously you will develop yourself as person by means of experiencing the Nepali culture, ethnicity and pureness. At last, many local Nepali benefit from our projects indirectly. Voluntary work in Nepal can be an extremely rewarding and life-changing experience. You will live and work in one of the world’s most diverse countries, with geography that ranges from the peak of the Himalaya to the tropical heat of the flat Terai; from the chaos of Kathmandu to the tranquility of rural villages.
