Volunteers’ review: Joyful elections in Nepal

Nepal had their local election last week. Rod, a volunteer, told us about his experience at the elections in Nepal:

‘Throughout the town little flags were attached to the houses. There was a sense of excitement leading up to the elections that you could see and feel. During the day itself nobody was allowed to drive or cycle, to prevent people from double-voting. Because of this people were enjoying time with their families. It was  a nice quiet day with children playing on the empty streets where normally cars are racing by. After the elections people were celebrating the outcomes by dancing, waving their flags and walking in procession throughout the villages. It was such a happy event to see! People were celebrating their freedom to vote and made a joyful experience out of it.’
