Volunteering in Nepal at Multiple Locations
Volunteering in Nepal at Multiple Locations with Extreme Geographical and Cultural Diversity
Our volunteer Ms. Carolien Velzeboer joined Volunteer Society Nepal for our volunteer and trek program. She showed interest for volunteering and trekking at the places where there are not so many western people. Volunteer Society Nepal respects Carolien’s interests and feelings and set out to provide her a great volunteer experience in different places. Carolien is also very flexible in arranging her programs. So we advised her several options, among which she chose to get involved in teaching 2 weeks at the Montessori School in Salleri, Solukhumbhu District in the Mt. Everest Region. She combined this with a 2 week Lower Solukhumbu Trek. She was very satisfied & happy helping the small children at the school in the remote Everest mountain region and felt wonderful about the trek. She also taught English to the Buddhist Monk children at a monastery in Salleri.
She posted on her Facebook “Today I could make the Montessori school in Salleri happy with (part of) the donation of my very valued AH Online MT-colleagues. The school with 25 children (18 months to 4 years) has been open for 5 months but still had no / hardly any toys. With (part of) the donation of my highly valued ah online Mt-colleagues today the Montessori school in Salleri can be happy with toys for 25 children (18 months to 4 years). The school has existed for 5 months but still had no toys.”
After returning back in Kathmandu, she showed interest in volunteering at one of the most beautiful and popular place in Nepal, Pokhara. So we arranged her volunteering placement again at a Montessori School in Pokhara city. In the meantime in Kathmandu she visited and helped the children at CBIA School and Centre for Children with Intellectual Disabilities. She has been working hard helping the small children with lots of educational and fun activities. She has been very comfortable in Pokhara. She stayed with a host family mother who is a teacher in the same school where she is working. According to Carolien, the hospitality she received at the host families in Salleri, Kathmandu and Pokhara is amazing. She enjoyed helping the schools and traveling around at three different geographically and culturally diverse places: Kathmandu, Salleri and Pokhara.
Thank you Carolien for your wonderful support.
