Chinese Volunteers in Nepal

Nepal is a country that is blessed with magnificent natural beauty and the Himalayas. It is a perfect blend of various cultures, traditions, costumes, languages and religions. Therefore, Nepal is a perfect tourist destination for those wishing enjoy the natural beauty and volunteer at the same time. VSN has been providing a great platform for all those wishing to become a part of volunteer in Nepal. Several projects are run by VSN. Examples are the Women center, disability center and the CBIA School. The volunteers are placed in these projects based on their interests. Over the past 3-4 years Nepal has become a point of attraction for a lot of Chinese. When they volunteer in Nepal, most of them focus on teaching Chinese as a part of volunteering or assisting with playing with the children at the preschools.

Volunteering schedule

Chinese volunteers usually come in Nepal for one or two weeks. The first one or two days they receive Nepali Language classes and we take them on different tours of Kathmandu after their morning class. These tours includes some of the beautiful heritage sites of Nepal: Swayambunath, Durbar Square or Bouddha stupa.

Chinese language teaching

Most of the Chinese teach Chinese language as a part of their volunteering. Our schools are great platforms for them to expose their skills. Besides teaching they also motivate the kids to learn more about a strange language. For example they give the kids presents as rewards to keep them motivated to try and work harder. Hem Rai, the principal of the school said “These sorts of language classes are very useful as our students get an opportunity to learn something unique and new.”  One Chinese volunteer added “We are very excited and happy to be a part of volunteering in Nepal.”
