Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.
Linda Ris has been living and working in Nepal in total for 4 years now. Below she explains about her love for Nepal, and how she started working for Volunteer Society Nepal.
The first time I came to Nepal was in 2011. I worked for an International NGO and worked at the Ministery of Education. There I worked on programs, policies and projects with regards to making the quality of education better. I fell in love with Nepal instantly: the people, the colours, the mountains. I stayed for two years and then went back to the Netherlands.
I never felt truly at home again in the Netherlands. Although I had a nice life and a good job as a education manager at the VU University, Nepal kept calling me. So I decided to leave again in 2015. Together with my boyfriend we travelled all over the world and after some time we arrived in Nepal.
I knew one thing: I want to connect again with the people! But this time I want to work on the ground. I want to work directly with small scale community projects. I saw a small ad from Volunteer Society Nepal on Idealist.org. And when I met the people from Volunteer Society Nepal I knew it was the perfect fit. VSN is a local, transparent and honest organisation with beautiful projects that are in need of help and love and care.
So I decided to volunteer with them and I became part of the amazing Volunteer Society Nepal family. I love to visit new projects, decide together what they need and create new projects. And above all connect the volunteers to the right project. If there is a good match, the project grows! It develops and the volunteer will have an amazing time and positive impact!
I am now in Nepal half of the year and when I am here, I always make sure I explore a new part of Nepal. I visit new and old projects such as schools and elderly homes. This way I get to know more and more about Nepal. And together with the infinite knowledge of my colleagues we make the best volunteer and travel programs!
Examples of projects we have set up in the past years are:
We have also visited and added elderly homes to our list of projects. Besides the volunteering, we focus more and more on Ethical Traveling as well. People who don’t want to volunteer, but still like to help our causes can join us through our special Language and Culture Programs. Or they can book their tours and treks with Travel Society Nepal.
All together, I am very happy to contribute to the amazing work that Volunteer Society Nepal is doing. I look forward to being in contact with new volunteers. Together with Volunteer Society Nepal we can make a difference here in Nepal. We can create more projects and help more people on the ground!
