About Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is a small circuit trail in the lower part of the Annapurna region. It is one of the classics and the most stunning viewing point of Poon Hill is the prime destination of this trip. The hill offers a majestic sunrise over the sky-touching mountains. A glimpse of the snow-capped peaks turning from grey to pink to brilliant white is just awe-inspiring. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a relatively easy trek which can be done all year round, although autumn and spring are considered the most impressive. Witness stunning scenic villages settled by Magar, Gurung ethnic locals, lush vegetation, rhododendron forests, mountain streams and heterogeneous landscapes deemed nature’s true delicacies of the region.

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is a popular trekking in Nepal, suitable for every type of trekker, who loves to explore the Himalayan short trekking as well as cultural experience. During the hike we will experience lush forests of rhododendrons and oak, the beautiful settlement of Gurung and Magars, offers the Annapurna Himalayan panoramas, waterfalls, terraced rice fields and local people’s culture and lifestyles.

You will be picked up at the airport by one of the VSN staff and driven to your Kathmandu host family or a hotel. Here you will be welcomed into the family, be given your own room and be provided with all your meals while in Kathmandu. This will be your home during your orientation and volunteering in Nepal. With
easy bus routes into town and the surrounding countryside this quiet and safe suburb is the perfect base for your time in Nepal.

The beginning of the journey today we head to Pokhara. The journey to the city of lakes begins from the valley heading out of its twisty roads reaching Prithvi Highway and the thrashing Trishuli River. The tranquil journey gives us a peek at the majestic Himalayas right as we enter the mesmerizing Pokhara valley. Overnight stay at a hotel in Pokhara. Meals: Breakfast

Following a drive to Nayapul, the trek to the village of Ulleri will begin. Passing through sub-tropical forests, river banks and villages, the trek will take about six hours. We’ll then have an overnight stay in Ulleri. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Today’s destination is Ghorepani. Soon after leaving Ulleri, we’ll trek through the dense rhododendron forest. In spring, the forest becomes vibrant with blooming rhododendron. Before reaching Ghorepani, we’ll pass the small village of Banthati and Nangethati. Ghorepani is a big Magar village famous for its incredible view of the Annapurna range, preserved culture and unique housing pattern. That night we’ll stay in Ghorepani. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Following an early start we’ll commence the hike to our chosen destination of Poon Hill (3,210m). It is a key landmark for those wishing to see the breath-taking sunrise over the Annapurna Mountains. You can see well over 20 snow-capped peaks including Annapurna I (8,091m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Fishtail (6,993m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Annapurna II, Annapurna III to name just a few. We’ll then return to Ghorepani for breakfast and continue our trek to Tadapani. Along the rugged trail, we’ll walk deep through the forest surrounded by waterfalls and streams. Total trekking time that day is likely to be around 5-6 hours. That night we’ll stay in Tadapani. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

After breakfast, we’ll descend to the big Gurung village of Ghandruk. Almost the entire trail today is covered by dense forest enriched with wild flora and fauna. You’ll still get wonderful views of the mountains including Mt. Fishtail, Annapurna South and Himalchuli. Ghandruk is a cultural village with a preserved and traditional lifestyle. Upon arrival, you’ll get the chance to explore the village and converse with the locals. We’ll then have an overnight stay in Ghandruk. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Today we’ll enjoy the enchanting view of terraces and scattered houses as we trek all the way down to Nayapul. At Nayapul, we’ll catch bus/car and drive back to Pokhara where we can explore this beautiful lakeside city, boat across the Phewa. We’ll then have an overnight stay in Pokhara. Meals: Breakfast and Lunch.

After breakfast, transfer to Tourist bus station and 07:30am drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus. This scenic drive offers fascinating glimpses of rural Nepal as you pass through Middle Hill scenery along the famous rafting Trishuli River originated from Tibet north east of Kathmandu. Meals: Dinner

Our journey in Nepal comes to an end today! A Volunteer Society Nepal representative will drop us off at the airport approximately 3 hours before our scheduled flight. On our way to home, we have plenty of time to plan our next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
