Teaching English in Buddhist Monastery: I am a Teacher at Graaf Huyn College in the Netherlands. I arrived in Nepal on the 27th of July for four weeks to take part in Teaching English in Buddhist Monastery. I was picked up by VSN staff at the Kathmandu airport. Once I arrived in Nepal, first four days, I was provided Nepal language class, cultural orientation and sightseeing of major historical places of Kathmandu. I was also taken to visit VSN run women center, school, child care center and a disability center. I had a good fun to learn some Nepali language although it was quite difficult. It was great to visit the projects that VSN has been doing to help the communities.
VSN was very supportive. I felt very safe with VSN as they responded immediately when I called or sent a message. They frequently visited me while I was working. I am so happy that my host family was so nice they treated me as their family member.
Before I came to Nepal I had collected €400.- from family and friends which has been great to support with School Supplies (books, notebooks, crayons, etc.) at the monastery and a local elementary school.
I had the best time with the young Buddhist monks especially while I was interacting with them. I has been an eye opening experience for work the Buddhists monks and homestay. I really learnt a lot about the country and people of Nepal.
